What Describes Your Dog?

For Puppies

A Gentle First Experience

We understand that the first grooming visit can feel unfamiliar and a little overwhelming for a young dog. Our puppy sessions are intentionally calm and unhurried — we introduce tools gradually, use positive reinforcement, and never rush the process.

Early positive experiences with grooming help build confident, relaxed dogs that stay easy to groom throughout their lives. We recommend starting between 12–16 weeks, after vaccinations are complete.

  • Shorter, gentler sessions
  • Gradual tool introduction
  • Lots of patience and calm reassurance
  • Feedback for owners on at-home brushing

For Small Dogs

Precision and Patience

Small dogs often have surprisingly complex grooming needs. Many small breeds have coats that grow continuously, require breed-specific styles, or are prone to matting around the face and legs.

We work carefully on smaller frames, paying attention to sensitive areas and ensuring the experience is calm. Yorkies, Shih Tzus, Maltese, Cavaliers, Dachshunds — we're familiar with all of them.

  • Breed-appropriate cuts
  • Gentle handling of delicate coats
  • Face, paw, and sanitary trims
  • Ear cleaning for floppy-eared breeds

For Large Breeds

Thorough, Efficient, and Comfortable

Large breed grooms require space, equipment, and time. We're well-equipped for the job — from Golden Retrievers to German Shepherds, Bernese Mountain Dogs to Malamutes.

Our grooming setup handles dogs of all sizes safely and comfortably. We use appropriate grooming tables and non-slip matting to keep larger dogs secure and relaxed throughout.

  • Safe, secure grooming setup
  • Appropriate drying time and technique

Long Coat Maintenance

Beautiful Coats Need Regular Care

Long coats can mat quickly, especially in areas with friction — the collar, armpits, behind the ears, and between the legs. Regular professional grooming prevents these issues from becoming uncomfortable for your dog.

We brush out tangles carefully before bathing, trim selectively, and can discuss an ongoing care schedule suited to your dog's coat type and your lifestyle.

  • Pre-bath de-matting and brush-out
  • Coat-appropriate shampoo and conditioner
  • Trim options from tidy to full cut

For Senior Dogs

Care That Respects Their Age

Older dogs often have reduced tolerance for long grooming sessions — sore joints, fatigue, or anxiety can make a full groom more tiring than it would have been in younger years.

We adapt our approach for senior dogs. This might mean shorter sessions, more frequent rests, or simply taking extra time to make the whole experience more manageable and comfortable.

  • Shorter session options
  • Gentle, low-stress handling
  • Non-slip surfaces for arthritic dogs
  • Communication with owners about comfort needs

The Process

What Happens During a Grooming Session?

Transparency matters. Here's a look at what a typical full grooming visit involves — step by step.

1

Arrival & Check-In

When you arrive, we'll have a brief chat about your dog's coat condition, any sensitive areas, your preferred style, and anything we should know before we get started. If it's a first visit, we'll give your dog time to settle in.

2

Pre-Bath Brush-Out

We always brush before bathing. This removes loose hair, loosens minor tangles, and gets the coat ready to be washed evenly. For long or matted coats, this step takes longer and requires patience — we never rush it.

3

Bath with Appropriate Shampoo

Using lukewarm water and a shampoo suited to your dog's coat and skin type. We take care around the face and ears. A conditioning rinse is included for most full groom services to leave the coat soft and manageable.

4

Professional Blow Dry & Brush

A thorough professional blow dry using appropriate heat settings, followed by a full brush-out. For double-coated breeds, this step can remove significant amounts of loose undercoat — which makes a real difference to shedding at home.

5

Haircut / Trim (if included)

For full grooms, we'll apply the agreed style — whether that's a breed-standard clip, a practical everyday trim, or a tidy-up. We're happy to work from reference photos and will always talk through options if you're unsure.

6

Finishing Touches & Health Check

Nail trim, ear clean, paw tidy, face and eye area tidy. We also take a moment to give the skin and coat a general look-over. If we notice anything worth mentioning — a skin irritation, a lump, ear redness — we'll let you know.

Visual Overview

A Grooming Session Makes a Difference

These cards illustrate the kinds of changes a proper grooming session can bring — in cleanliness, coat condition, and overall comfort.

Before Grooming

Loose undercoat & dull coat

Build-up of dead hair, reduced coat shine, and possible mild odour from infrequent bathing.

After Grooming

Clean, fresh, and healthy coat

Thoroughly washed, conditioned, blow-dried and brushed — coat is manageable, odour-free, and noticeably healthier.

Before Grooming

Overgrown nails & ear buildup

Long nails affect posture and gait; ear buildup can cause irritation if not regularly cleared.

After Grooming

Trimmed nails, clean ears

Nails trimmed to a comfortable length and ears gently cleaned — small steps that contribute to real comfort.

Before Grooming

Matted or tangled coat

Tangles and mats restrict skin breathing and can pull at sensitive skin, causing ongoing mild discomfort.

After Grooming

Smooth, tangle-free coat

Carefully de-matted, washed, and styled — the coat moves freely and the skin underneath can breathe properly.

Dog grooming philosophy
Our Approach

Comfort First.
Always.

We believe a good grooming visit should be calm, unhurried, and low-stress for your dog. That means reading body language carefully, adjusting our pace to match how a dog is feeling, and never forcing the process.

Over time, most dogs — even those with some grooming anxiety — begin to settle into the routine of regular visits. That's one of the most rewarding things about this work.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I have my dog professionally groomed?
This depends on your dog's coat type and lifestyle. As a general guide: long or curly coats typically need grooming every 4–8 weeks; short-coated breeds can often go 8–12 weeks between visits. We're happy to recommend a schedule at your dog's first visit.
My dog is nervous around strangers. Can you still groom them?
Yes — this is something we encounter regularly. We ask about your dog's temperament and history before starting, and we adjust our approach accordingly. For very anxious dogs, we may suggest shorter initial sessions and a gradual introduction to the process over a few visits. Please let us know in advance if your dog has any particular sensitivities.
What age can I bring my puppy in for their first groom?
We recommend waiting until your puppy has completed their primary vaccination course and has been cleared by your vet to socialise with other animals. For most puppies, this is around 12–16 weeks. Early grooming experiences have a positive effect on how relaxed dogs remain with grooming throughout their lives.
How long does a grooming session take?
Session length varies by breed, coat condition, and services booked. A bath and blow dry for a small dog might take 45–60 minutes. A full groom for a large dog with a thick double coat can take 2.5–3 hours. We'll give you an estimated time when you book, and we'll call or message when your dog is ready for pick-up.
What should I do to prepare my dog for their appointment?
Try to give your dog a short walk beforehand to let them burn off some energy — a tired dog is often a calmer dog. Avoid feeding a large meal right before the appointment. If your dog is matted, try to gently brush where possible, but don't force it — we'll assess the coat when they arrive.
Do you groom all breeds?
We work with a wide range of breeds — from small companion dogs to large working breeds. If you have a less common breed, feel free to contact us first and we'll confirm we're the right fit for your dog's specific grooming needs.
